Migration crisis in Europe: is the EU on the right track?
Under the mounting strain of the migration crisis EU leaders met on September 22-23, October 8-9, and 15, 2015 to discuss the unfolding events. As an outcome of the discourse, the EU member states representatives made some decisions to mitigate the pressure resulting from the influx of migrants.This paper takes a stock of these recently adopted EU measures arguing that they likely will fall short of effectively stemming the influx of migrants. This is so because the EU course of action still lacks clear direction and consensus among member states regarding the extent to which the bloc is willing and capable to receive asylum seekers. This ambiguity and divergence of approaches prevent the EU from taking decisive and consistent steps in one direction. Due to this undecidedness, none of the planned actions will bear fruit as expected.
