Expert Bio
Verónica Martins is specialised in European Studies. Her research areas focus on Foreign Policy, Security- mainly terrorism, counter-terrorism, illegal immigration and border control- and defence issues. She has done a professional traineeship at the International and Strategic Studies Institute, former secretariat of the EuroMeSCo Network, and she worked at the Jacques Delors European Information Centre, in Lisbon, where she focused on the European Union Mediterranean Policy and on business opportunities of the enlargement to the Eastern and Central Europe, respectively. She was a collaborator of the National Defense Institute in Lisbon where she carried out research on European issues in the Research and Defence Department. Verónica was also an intern in the think tank Notre Europe-Institut Jacques Delors, in Paris, and worked as a researcher for the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe, in Luxembourg, where she was responsible for the scientific dimension of the project «Diplomacy within WEU».
Verónica holds an MA in European Political and Administrative Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) and, under joint international supervision, a PhD in Political Science, Europe specialisation, from Sciences Po Paris (France) and the University of Minho (Portugal). Her thesis focused on the Europeanisation of French and Portuguese Foreign Policy and on the European Foreign Policy towards North Africa (terrorism and immigration issues). She speaks fluent English, French and Portuguese and have a good knowledge of Spanish.
